No matter where you are in the world, sunsets are always magical. The blue hues deepen, the sun sinks into the horizon, and the landscape glows in shades of orange and fiery red.
Since Geneva is one of Switzerland’s most photogenic cities, it’s not surprising that the golden hours here are strikingly beautiful. From relaxing rooftop style while watching the sunlight illuminate the Jet d’Eau, to dining lakeside with panoramic views of the sinking golden sun, you’re sure to find plenty of picturesque places to watch the sunset here.
Auberge du Lion d'Or
For a quieter, more under-the-radar spot, head to the idyllic Auberge du Lion d’or in Cologny. Outside of the city centre, this charming auberge is arguably one of the best places to watch the sunset in Geneva. It’s an ideal place to catch the last rays of sun softly flickering behind the mountains, over a delicious meal by two starred Chefs Gilles Dupont and Thomas Byrne.
For the best sunset views of the Jet d’Eau this should be your spot of choice. The water jet has never looked so majestic than from MET rooftop lounge. This swanky terrace with its slate-coloured sofas, cool swing chairs, and modern wood decor, is the ideal spot to drink a glass of champagne and watch the light wash over Lake Geneva.
It’s hard to imagine a more spectacular place than Izumi, located on the rooftop of the glamorous Four Seasons hotel. This is probably the most popular sunset spot in all of Geneva. Here, guests take in panoramic views of the lake and Alps, while savouring some of the best Japanese-fusion Nikkei cuisine in town. On a clear night, you’ll see St Pierre’s Cathedral as well as many other historical landmarks, become stencilled into the warm orange sky.
Restaurant du Creux-de-Genthod
An old-time charmer, Restaurant du Creux-de-Genthod is well-known for offering some of the best sunset views of the region. The romantic lakeside restaurant, nestled between chestnut trees and charming ivy-covered arches, is the perfect place for dining al fresco and watching the sun illuminate the lake and Alps. Make sure to walk along the water, as there are many secluded areas to sit and watch the last rays flicker away.
Enveloped by mountain vistas, lush trees, and lakeside scenery, Le Floris in Anières is the ultimate city escape with sunset views worth talking about. The daily golden sunset is best appreciated from the terrace, where you can watch the sun brushstroke the landscape, transforming the lake and alps into a magical watercolor painting.
